PM orders bottlenecks removed to enable semiconductor industry growth

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has emphasised the urgent need to remove bottlenecks in mechanisms, policies, human resources, and infrastructure to create favourable conditions for semiconductors to become a strategic driver of Vietnam’s economic growth and international integration.

Addressing the second meeting of the National Steering Committee for Semiconductor Industry Development in Hanoi on August 4, the Prime Minister noted that the semiconductor industry is a key foundational sector of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, playing a vital role in areas such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, big data, and the Internet of Things.

With countries around the world ramping up investments in this field, Vietnam must seize the opportunity to “leapfrog” and integrate deeply into the global value chain, he said.

However, the PM, who is also head of the steering committee, pointed out that the implementation of semiconductor development policies in Vietnam remains limited and has yet to yield the desired results. He urged ministries, sectors, and localities to seriously assess what has and hasn't been achieved, and to propose concrete, feasible, and breakthrough solutions, especially in the training of high-quality human resources, development of technological infrastructure, investment attraction, and establishment of a national semiconductor ecosystem.

The Prime Minister also stressed the importance of fostering a close partnership among the State, academia, and enterprises to comprehensively develop the semiconductor industry from design and fabrication to packaging and testing.

He expressed his hope that the semiconductor sector would become a cornerstone of innovation, contributing significantly to the national target of 8.3–8.5% GDP growth in 2025, and aiming for double-digit growth in the following years.  – Source: VOV
