On the afternoon of 14th July in Hanoi, the Vietnam National Chemical Group (Vinachem) held a working session with a delegation from Leipzig University (Federal Republic of Germany) to discuss and consult on innovation, digital transformation, the development of a Research and Development (R&D) Centre, and the training of high-quality human resources.

Attending on behalf of Leipzig University were Professor Dr. Utz Dornberger, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics and Director of the International SEPT Competence Centre, and Ms. Trần Thị Dinh, Coordinator of the Saxony State Liaison Office in Vietnam.

Representing Vinachem were Mr. Chu Văn Giáp, Member of the Board of Members; Mr. Đào Trọng Cường, Deputy General Director of the Group; along with leaders of specialised departments and relevant units.

During the session, Mr. Đào Trọng Cường, Deputy General Director, outlined the Group’s strategy for establishing an R&D Centre modelled on a modern scientific and technological organisation. The centre is intended to carry out research, technology development, innovation, pilot production, inspection, technology transfer, and workforce training. The focus will be on core technology areas such as pure and ultra-pure chemicals, pharmaceuticals, new materials, and materials for energy storage batteries, while also addressing scientific and technological challenges in support of the Group’s business activities and those of its member units.

Both parties exchanged ideas regarding innovation management models, operational mechanisms for the R&D Centre, building systems for evaluating innovation effectiveness, and strengthening links between research and production to promote commercialisation of research outcomes. The Leipzig University delegation also shared experiences on developing innovation ecosystems, establishing spin-off enterprises from research centres, and fostering university-business cooperation.

In the field of training, both sides agreed to further explore cooperation in developing training programmes on innovation management, technology transfer, and digital transformation for Vinachem’s leaders, managers, and specialists. They also discussed promoting staff exchanges, internships, and research placements at R&D centres and technology incubators in Saxony, Germany. Further discussions were held on connecting Vinachem’s R&D Centre with German universities, research institutes, companies, and start-ups to expand cooperation in advanced technology transfer, especially in new materials, environmental technology, and energy storage batteries.

In his concluding remarks, Mr. Đào Trọng Cường, Deputy General Director of Vinachem, expressed his appreciation to Professor Utz Dornberger and the Leipzig University delegation for sharing valuable experiences and advanced models in innovation management, research centre development, digital transformation, and workforce training. He affirmed that the insights gained would provide a crucial foundation for Vinachem to refine its proposal for establishing an R&D Centre and to broaden international cooperation in the near future.

To implement the discussed initiatives, Mr. Đào Trọng Cường tasked the Human Resources and Technical Departments with taking the lead, coordinating with relevant bodies to develop a detailed cooperation plan with Leipzig University in the areas of human resources training, innovation, technology transfer, and R&D centre development, thereby enhancing the Group’s scientific, technological, and competitive capabilities in this new phase.

The meeting took place in an open, substantive, and efficient atmosphere, paving the way for promising collaboration between Vinachem and Leipzig University in scientific research, innovation, digital transformation, and high-quality workforce development, thereby contributing to the realisation of Vinachem’s objectives for science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation.
